EXECUTIVE TEAM DEVELOPMENT
Culture starts here.
Healthy Executive Teams Lead to Healthy Organizations
Organizations that invest in the overall health and cohesiveness of their executive team reap long-term benefits in terms of workplace morale, sustainability, effectiveness, employee engagement, and much more.
Nash Consulting’s work with executive teams is highly customizable in terms of length of engagement and content, based on each organization’s specific needs.
A typical engagement might be organized around an initial round of interviews (data collection), then an introductory day or two of work together as a group (analyzing the data and setting goals), followed by six months to a year of periodic sessions, such as two days per quarter or one day per month – whatever cadence best meets the team’s needs.
“Great teams don’t hold back with one another. They’re unafraid to air their dirty laundry. They admit their mistakes, their weaknesses, and their concerns without fear of reprisal.”
PATRICK LENCIONI
Executive Team Development
Possible stages for Nash Consulting's executive team development might include:
Individual self-awareness and group dynamic awareness. This phase may include individual assessments, one-on-one coaching, and group discussion.
Trust-building. Here we walk the team through a series of discussions and activities that will increase the executive team’s ability to show up authentically, create psychological safety, embrace positive change, support one another with both grace and accountability, and more.
Team skill-building. It’s important that executive teams are adept at a variety of team skills, including decision-making, managing conflict, effective meetings, holding one another accountable, focusing on results, consensus building, and more.
And speaking of meetings. One of the most underrated skills for executive teams is the ability to hold effective executive team meetings. Here, we will explore (and make commitments to) the nuts and bolts of creating highly effective (and enjoyable) exec meetings, including the use of agendas, actually making decisions (instead of spinning around and never landing), making sure everyone gets a voice, managing and embracing healthy disagreement, becoming committed to commitment, and more.
Leadership skill development. An effective executive team must provide effective leadership throughout the organization in terms of change management, sponsorship, communication, motivation, morale building, accountability, and much more.
Understanding people. We will take a deep dive into Behavior Styles, in which the team will gain valuable knowledge regarding each member’s way of showing up, reactions, impact on others, processing style, and much more, culminating in each team member choosing custom-designed growth opportunities.
Common commitments. One of our strategies for building a healthy leadership team includes a “Common Commitments” exercise - a process that establishes behavioral norms that support the practices of accountability, decision-making, teamwork, respect, attention to results, cohesiveness, and more. This process culminates in a group consensus decision around a shared set of team commitments and a discussion about sustainability - avoiding the “flavor of the year syndrome.”
Sustainability. As in all our work, Nash Consulting believes that focusing on and training in sustainability best practices will empower the group to retain all the benefits of this important work long into the future. Nash Consulting will work with your team to create action plans for group-specific sustainability practices and processes to ensure the work is sustained long after our engagement concludes.
